Vestas

Presentation

With a vision to become the global leader in sustainable energy solutions, everything Vestas do revolves around the development and deployment of sustainable energy solutions. Every day, our 29,000 employees help to create a better world by designing, manufacturing, installing, developing, and servicing wind energy and hybrid projects all over the world.

With +151 GW of wind turbines installed in 86 countries, our sustainable energy solutions have already prevented 1.5 billion tons of CO₂ being emitted into the atmosphere and contributed to a more sustainable energy system. We have more than 40 years of experience in wind energy and were the first company to reach the 100 GW landmarks for both the installation and service of wind turbines. As such, we believe we have already played a crucial role in laying the foundations for the sustainable era, and that we are uniquely positioned to show the path to a sustainable planet.

In some industries and sectors electrification is unfortunately not feasible anytime soon. However, Power-to-X and green hydrogen are well-known solutions that show great potential to address the challenges we face. Vestas has a clear vision to become a global leader in sustainable energy solutions with hydrogen and related PtX solutions being a core part of this ambition

In January 2022, Vestas has been named the most sustainable company in the world in the 18th annual Global 100 ranking published by Corporate Knights. This award is a testament to both our existing achievements, and our ongoing progress in ensuring Sustainability in Everything We Do. Stemming from our commitment to a fully sustainable supply chain, with recyclable components such as blades, and sustainable shipping and transport based on renewable fuels.

Role in the project

Wind energy is our heritage and core competence. We believe wind will form the backbone of the sustainable energy systems of the future, and we remain focused on developing solutions that accelerate the energy transition and strengthen Vestas’ continued leadership in wind.

Vestas brings significant experience and expertise within renewable plant solutions through its core business of developing, design, construction and operation of wind and hybrid renewable power plants. Applying this knowledge will ensure the optimization of the renewable sources to obtain the most competitive cost possible of hydrogen.

Core capabilities to be applied in the GreenH2Atlantic project relates to optimizing the electrical infrastructure in the PV and Wind plant and real-time plant control to ensure the stability of the local grid feeding the elecrolyzer. It also relates to the plant control with reference to the renewable sources and interfacing with the electrolysis system. By providing detailed knowledge from the renewable side and by knowing the interface requirements towards the electrolysis system setup accommodating the dynamic handling required, Vestas will also provide key insight into to evaluation and selection of the adequate electrolysis system to be used.

Vestas will also contribute as support to the project management activities (WP1) as well as to support the replication, exploitation and EU-wide industrialization (WP10) and stakeholder engagement through communication & dissemination activities (WP11).
